Scoil Thomáis Chess Championship

The brains behind the inaugural Scoil Thomáis Chess Championship is a pupil in 6th class who took up chess when he was only 6 years old and is a member of the Blanchardstown Chess Club. After Christmas he began to organise the competition. He invited chess enthusiasts from 3rd to 6th class to compete. Since the middle of February he and his assistants have been officiating at matches during break times. The championship reached the semi-final stage this week and we are eagerly awaiting the results of the final which will be held soon.

Best of luck to the finalists and well done to everyone who took part in the competition so far. Above all, the school would like to thank our 6th class organiser and his assistants for giving up so much of their free time over the past few months. They are pictured above along with the pupils who made it to the semi-finals of the competition.

The Scoil Thomáis annual school walk took place in the Phoenix Park at 11am on Sunday, 11th May. There was a dull, damp start to the day but it brightened up just in time!

The event began with the boys and girls from 3rd - 6th class competing in running races. The other children and their families followed.

As the runners and walkers finished the course, their efforts were rewarded with refreshments (popcorn, crisps, drinks and chocolate bars) provided by the Parents Association.

Eamonn Coghlan, a former Olympic athlete who represented Ireland in the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games, presented the medals to the race participants.

We would like to thank all of the children, their families, friends and neighbours for their support and contributions and the Parents Association and Teacher Committee for organising and running the event. A very enjoyable Sunday morning was had by all!

The Easter Bunny Visited Scoil Thomáis

While the children were on yard today, the Easter Bunny hopped quietly into the school and left a basket of chocolate eggs for the boys and girls in Junior and Senior Infants. Some children even spotted his ears and furry tail hiding in the bushes while they were on yard!

Santry 2014

By Eoin Walsh and Ciara Mullugan

On Tuesday, 8th March, Scoil Thomais was represented by 50 of our athletes at the final day of this year’s Fingal Athletics League. Beginning in October of last year, the eight teams ran three races in Porterstown before this week’s final race in Morton Stadium in Santry. In October, Scoil Thomais had their first race of the league. Our teams earned many points from the very first race and kept going from there! When the cross country squad arrived at Morton Stadium, many were amazed by its size! However, having ran brilliantly in Porterstown, we were confident that we could compete well. We ended up doing even better than expected, winning two plaques for Scoil Thomais! These were awarded for Best Overall Boys and Best Overall Girls in our division. We look forward to displaying these in school. Well done to all our wonderful athletes and thanks to Mr Freeman, Mr Doherty, Ms Walsh and Ms Creighton for preparing us for our races.
